Youth Court

The Youth Court is usually held in a separate part of the building to the adult Magistrates Court. Anyone over the age of criminal responsibility and under the age of 18 will unless they are charged with an adult) appear in the Youth Court. The Youth Court is a complicated area for law. There are many different kinds of sentences that the Court can impose and it has a number of complex and interlocking powers. You really do need expert advice when appearing before the Youth Court.

The Magistrates will normally expect the youth to be in attendance with his or her parents or guardians but there are certain circumstances where this can be avoided.

Since the area of law involved can be very difficult to follow we suggest that you contact our Youth Court expert Shane O’Neill on 0161 474 1992/ 0161 477 9038 for further information.

Just to give you some idea of the mine field that you could be treading without legal representation they are somewhere in the order of 14 different kinds of sentences that a Youth Court can hand out. In very exceptional and serious circumstances cases can to from the Youth Court to the Crown Court.
